You must consider what kind of light you want your vehicle to omit and what bulb lifetime you require. Often people make the mistake of thinking the higher the Kelvin, the brighter the light will be, this is not the case. Below we break down d3s hid bulbs colour options and explain them in more detail.

• 4300K - OEM Original White d3s bulb

This is often the most popular choice for d3s hid bulbs as it has the highest lumen output and therefore has the closest appearance to daylight.

• 5000K - Pure white d3s bulb

Compared to the original white, pure white is more bluish in tone.

• 6000K - Cool White d3s bulb

As this colour has a slightly higher Kelvin number, it will be slightly darker and has more of a cool tone than original white which is more similar to natural daylight.

• 8000K - Aqua Blue d3s bulb

Aqua blue is rarely used by a lot of manufacturers as the more purple or blue a light appears to be, the less visible light it creates, as blue light can often fall on a spectrum not visible to human eyes.

• 10000K - Saphire Blue d3s bulb

As this d3s hid bulb colour has the highest kelvin number, this is the darkest light option. The higher the Kelvin number, the less lifetime the bulb has which makes this bulb choice the least cost-effective. While this may not be the most affordable option, if you want blue light for aesthetic purposes, this is a great choice.

Most reputable manufacturers will offer their bulbs in a range of colours, e.g. Philips Xtreme vision is available in between 3200-4000K to allow vehicle owners to select their ideal white light. Similarly, Osram cool blue intense is available in colour temperatures of up to 4300K, further suggesting that the light closest to daylight is the most popular and best choice for d3s hid bulbs. Osram's Night Breaker line has bluish tone light available in up to 4300K also, solidifying that d3s hid bulb light temperatures between 4300-6000k is the best choice for most drivers.
