If your Skoda Karoq or Kodiaq displays “Please check front-left turn signal” or “Please check front-right turn signal,” check the front indicator on the named side. The warning identifies a lighting fault, but it does not tell you whether the light source, an electrical connection or a module has failed.

A complete headlight replacement is not automatically necessary. Our 00224256 and 00224257 LED modules are direct replacements for the corresponding original Varroc modules in compatible headlights. Confirm the failed component and match the existing part numbers before ordering.

This guide covers our 00224256 and 00224257 modules for selected facelift reflector LED headlights. Other headlight configurations can require different parts, even when the warning message is identical.

Please check front-left turn signal warning message

What Does the "Please Check Front-Left/Right Turn Signal" Warning Mean?

The car has detected a fault affecting the front indicator on the specified side. Left and right are viewed from inside the car, facing forwards.

Have a faulty indicator repaired promptly. It tells other road users when you intend to turn, so its operation matters for safe driving.

The light may remain dark, flicker, look dim or work intermittently. If it works when you inspect it, record whether the warning returns and under what circumstances. One successful check does not establish that an intermittent problem has been resolved.

Common Causes of the Front Turn Signal Warning

An LED indicator module can deteriorate over time or suffer external damage. The following are possible causes to investigate, rather than a diagnosis based on the dashboard warning alone.

Ageing and excessive heat

LEDs can lose light output as they age. Excessive operating temperatures can accelerate deterioration and shorten their service life, which is why effective heat dissipation matters. Age or reduced brightness alone does not confirm that the module needs replacing.

Water ingress and corrosion

Water entering through a damaged seal, cracked housing or poorly sealed connector can corrode electrical contacts and damage lighting components. Persistent droplets, pooled water or visible corrosion warrant inspection. A temporary light mist inside a headlight can be normal and does not, by itself, prove water damage.

Physical damage

An impact to the headlight can damage the module, housing or electrical connections. If the warning appeared after a collision, have the assembly checked for damage before ordering a replacement module.

Connection or power supply faults

Loose or corroded contacts, damaged wiring or an interrupted power supply can stop the indicator working even when the module itself is functional. These problems can resemble module failure, so replacing the module alone may leave the fault unresolved.

If inspection confirms a failed module, replace it with the correct matching part and address any associated water ingress or physical damage as part of the repair.

Do you need an LED module or a complete headlight?

Confirm that the module has failed before buying a replacement. If the cause is unclear, have the headlight, its connections and wiring checked.

When the fault is confined to a separately replaceable LED module, replacing that component can avoid replacing the complete headlight. A fault elsewhere in the lamp or electrical system needs its own repair.

When reviewing a repair quote, ask:

  • Which component has failed, and what test established that?
  • Is a separate replacement available for this exact headlight?
  • Is there other damage that would prevent a module replacement from resolving the fault?
  • What parts and labour are included in the quoted price?

Match the module to the fitted headlight

At Xenons4U, we supply 00224256 for the left side and 00224257 for the right side of selected reflector LED headlights. Match your fitted headlight to the references below:

These references apply to specific headlights. Compare the complete numbers and suffixes on your existing parts with our product listings. If anything differs, contact us to confirm fitment before ordering.

Why can the same warning lead to a different module?

Different headlight configurations can produce the same dashboard warning. For example, we also supply 00224033 and 00224034 for certain Crystal Lighting LED headlights, with different headlight references.

Do not choose between these module families using only the warning, the vehicle name or the affected side. Photograph the headlight label and existing module markings, including any suffixes, and have the replacement matched to those details. A parts department can also check the vehicle's build information using its VIN.

How much does the repair cost?

The cost depends on the diagnosed fault and the work needed to access and repair the fitted headlight.

As a parts-only example, the 00224256 replacement module is listed at £54.99. That figure excludes diagnosis, fitting and any additional work your vehicle requires.

Ask for an itemised quote that separates the replacement part from diagnosis and fitting. A module price is not a complete repair price, and it cannot be compared with a complete-headlight quote until the required repair has been established.

Does the replacement module need diagnostic setup?

Our 00224256 and 00224257 LED modules fit directly in place of the matching original units, with no diagnostic setup required after fitting. Match the existing module and headlight references before ordering.

Can you fit a direct replacement module yourself?

You may be able to fit the replacement yourself if you are comfortable accessing the headlight and working with its electrical connector. Follow the fitting procedure for the exact headlight on your vehicle.

Access varies by headlight and vehicle specification. A garage can fit the replacement if you cannot safely access the module.

Will a failed front indicator affect an MOT?

Yes. Under the DVSA MOT inspection manual, an inoperative direction indicator is a major defect. For an indicator with multiple light sources, more than half not functioning is also a major defect. The test assesses the lamp's operation, rather than treating the dashboard message alone as the diagnosis.

What if the warning remains after repair?

Inspect the indicator from outside the car and check that it flashes consistently. Test the daytime running light and the other functions of the affected headlight, then restart the car and check whether the warning returns.

If the warning persists or the lamp still behaves abnormally, have the fault checked again. Clearing a stored message cannot resolve a remaining electrical or lighting problem.

Once diagnosis confirms a module fault, use the existing module and headlight references to select the replacement. If you need help matching them, contact our Xenons4U team with clear photographs of the labels before ordering.
