In the beginning, most of the automobile makers were focused on innovation and perfection but now transport has come a long way and the future is all about making it safe and environmentally friendly. Volkswagen has had the reputation for many years to be the safest car that has driven on the road. The secret to being at the top is to consistently improve the features.
Volkswagen introduced the Adaptive Front-lighting System known as AFS for making safer journeys possible even in the dark.
Most of the unfortunate incidents that occur in the dark are due to the lack of awareness of the surroundings. To avoid any such incident most of the drivers sometimes switch to a higher beam, which is not favorable for the driver approaching from the opposite direction and puts them in a blind spot.
AFS explained
AFS is a lighting system that optimizes the distribution of light from the headlights consistent with driving situations. Depending on automobile speed and steering wheel movement, the system factors the low-beam headlights in the route the driver intends to travel.
In combination with discharge headlights, the AFS illuminates a greater distance and brightens up the road ahead more intensely as compared to the halogen headlights. AFS lighting system helps in enhancing the driver's subject of vision and visibility around curves and at intersections throughout night riding. Compatible with the car-leveling feature, the system offers a uniform distribution of light. Maintaining the illumination axis, the system enables you to drive safely as well as save drivers of oncoming cars from getting blinded.
This lighting system is supposed to work perfectly unless anything has gone wrong with any of the components.
Error bend lighting AFS warning message explained
When these lights malfunction a code will occur on the dashboard.
The most common warning messages:
- Error: Adaptive front lighting (AFS)
- Error: Cornering light (AFS)
- Cornering light (AFS) failure Owner's manual
- Adaptive front lighting Syst. (AFS) failure Owner's manual
- Error: Bend lighting (AFS)

You need to make sure you meet the requirements for AFS to operate:
- AFS must be switched ON in the MFI or Infotainment system.
- The low beams must be switched ON.
- The vehicle must be traveling approximately 6 mph or above.
Why does it malfunction?
There can be multiple reasons for these codes to show up. Here we will discuss some of them that can help you identify the possible reason if it happens to your Volkswagen.
For one reason, it is possible that the car may have hit some pothole or taken a hit. This might cause the wires to go off the settings and cause disorderliness.
Another possible reason is that the switch that controls the settings may be switched off.
Or sometimes the reason is simply a bulb which is not working. To investigate, check the bulb for its fuse or its placement. Sometimes the bulb is not placed accurately causing this error to occur.
To reach the right solution, it is advised that you check all of the above-mentioned possibilities. If these options are ruled out, then it could be a fault in the system. The movement and function of these lights are controlled by the module in the system. It needs to be fixed, and the best and sure way is to replace it.
How to fix this error?
If your Xenon Lights movement has stopped working and you see an onboard computer error, it means that this AFS 3D0 941 329D module which controls the AFS system has failed and needs to be replaced with a new one.
You do not have to buy a brand new headlamp for your car, in fact, you can replace the malfunctioning Valeo AFS ballast 3D0941329D.
Xenons4U 90025567 AFS ballast is the replacement for your old Valeo part and without any requirements for modifications or coding.
After getting it replaced, you can check the car again for the warning, the error should not appear anymore.
If it does not occur again, it means you are good to go!
