The TMS headlight driver module is a key part found in 5 series BMWs. Factory fitted in F11, F10 and F07 GT Pre-Facelift models with halogen headlamps, it plays a pivotal role in the proper function of the car's headlights. Available to buy as a module replacement for either the left or right hand side, they can be prone to some common malfunction issues.
If you have the relevant model 5 series and find your headlights are not performing as they should, this could be where your problem lies. Here are some of the most widely seen issues with this unit. Before you get too involved though, we would always advise checking the fuses in the old unit first.
Sidelight Daytime Running Lights Fault
If you begin to find that you are seeing a malfunction such as both parking sidelights not working or your daytime driving lights not functioning at all, it is probably the headlight drive module at fault. This can also be the reason your front turn indicators may not be working. To fix these common problems, the only option is to replace the driver module with a new one.
Headlight Vertical Aim Control Failure
Another issue you may find on your 5 series BMW is a failure with the vertical aim control function in your headlights. The 535051807 LEAR TMS ballast is responsible for this and again is usually the problem. If the vertical aim on your headlights is not functioning as it should or there is a vertical aim failure warning on your dashboard, you will need to install a new headlight module. As a guide, the 535051806 driver module is used on the BMW F10, F07 Gran Turismo (GT) and F11 pre-facelift (years 2010-2013).
